Beginning January 8, Bastille’s Back Bar will host a Parisian-style Gypsy jazz jam session with the Djangomatics, a local trio, on Tuesday evenings. The group’s swinging sound, known as jazz manouche in French, is the perfect accompaniment to the cozy setting of the Back Bar.
The Tuesday night performances will run from 8pm to 11pm, overlapping with the late-night happy hour, which begins at 10pm. The music will be free and open to all ages.
The Djangomatics, led by Michael Horowitz, author of best selling Gyspy jazz method books, focus primarily on the genre created by the 20th century two-fingered virtuoso Django Reinhardt. They also play in a variety of styles outside their regular Gyspy jazz—Latin, Klezmer, and French Musette show up in their sets as well.
